MLB Next offers fans at this year’s Home Run Derby and All-Star Game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle a unique game experience. Developed by Nexus Studios in collaboration with MLB, this first-of-its-kind mobile app is powered by T-Mobile 5G and available on iOS and Android for fans at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
The app streams real-time ball and player positions from MLB’s StatCast directly to your device and presents the action in a 3D model of the stadium overlaid in AR through your phone’s camera. Additionally, a 3D Strike Zone visualisation provides a close-up view of every pitch, while a replay feature allows fans to rewatch the action of previous plays. Audio streaming of Mixhalo feeds augments the experience with live commentary in both English and Spanish. Full player stats data is, of course, available as well, rounding out this feature-rich next-generation companion app.
As the digital designer for the MLB Next Project, I played a key role in designing the look and feel of this experience. I worked closely with the team at MLB to create a stylish product. The app utilises neumorphism to provide a sleek aesthetic and features a brisk and responsive UI, building upon MLB’s existing range of innovative products and packing nuance and detail into every inch of the screen.
